Wearing the Islamic hijab veil is mandatory for women in Iran, and in 2014, Iran's morality police warned, fined or arrested 3.6 million women for inappropriate dress. Masih Alinejad, an Iranian journalist and activist living in the U.S., wants to change this, and she's started by inviting Iranian women to send in pictures of themselves enjoying their unveiled hair.
Alinejad makes her points beautifully in an interview with Vox; "My mother wants to wear a scarf. I don't want to wear a scarf. Iran should be for both of us." Read on for more of her story!

Last year, 3.6 million women in Iran were warned, fined or arrested for not wearing hijabs

Masih Alinejad protested by inviting women to share pics of themselves without their veils

"As a kid, my brother was a symbol of freedom that I didn't have. How he was free to run in a green lovely farm"

"Two women with head scarves, and two women without head scarves. Look at how they are free!"

After she posted her own photos with and without a hijab veil, others followed suite

"Some of the pictures come from young girls saying that they just want to feel the wind in their hair. It's a simple demand"

"My mother wants to wear a scarf. I don't want to wear a scarf. Iran should be for both of us."

Alinejad's Facebook group, My Stealthy Freedom, already has more than 820,000 followers silently protesting Iran's hijab law

Just when you thought LEGOs couldn’t get any better, somebody comes along and creates a recipe for edible homemade gummy LEGO pieces that you can actually build with! Grant Thompson, the genius behind the ‘King Of Random’ Youtube DIY channel, posted a step-by-step recipe for how to make your dreams come true.
The best part is that there are only 2 ingredients – gelatin and water (though you can use flavored gelatin or Vitamin C, too). There are also separate links for creating a silicone LEGO candy mold, which is also relatively simple.
The cherry on top is how Thompson closes his mold so that you can actually build with these gummies! If you have very young children at home, however, consider waiting until they’re older – these gummies may encourage young children to eat real LEGO parts.

Suzy Taylor, an extraordinarily talented paper-cut artist in Hertfordshire, England, creates mind-bogglingly detailed works of paper art that are cut entirely by hand. She cuts each of her original designs out of a single piece of paper.
Her artwork revolves primarily around highly detailed renditions of folk art and natural or floral themes. She’s certainly passionate about her work; “I love working this way, it’s totally absorbing and I can get lost in it for hours.” She has a very popular Etsy shop which is temporarily close as of the publication of this article, but if you love her work, be sure to follow her!
If you love Taylor’s incredibly intricate paper cut artwork, be sure to check out Akira Nagaya and Maude White. It’s amazing what an artist can do with a simple sheet of paper!

Ecocapsules, designed by Bratislava-based Nice Architects, promise to let anyone live off the grid for up to a year. Each unit is equipped with solar panels, a retractable wind-turbine, and a design that captures rain water. Inside, you’ll find a kitchenette with running water, a flushing toilet, and hot shower.
The Ecocapsule “is suitable for a wide range of applications,” write the designers, such as an “independent research station or a tourist lodge to an emergency housing or a humanitarian-action unit.”
Those interested in buying one will be able to pre-order at the end of 2015, with delivery in the first half of 2016. A display unit will be show during the Pioneers festival in Vienna on the 28th-29th of May.

Beautiful flowers suspended in gelatin make Tokyo based Havaro’s Bavarian cream desserts exceptional. Sold only in Ichibangai shopping area in Tokyo Station, these treats contain real flower petals and sell for a little over $2 apiece. They are difficult to make, and the shop often sells out.
The name “Havaro” is based on the Japanese word for flower and the pronunciation of the word “Bavarois.” Marie-Antoine CarĂªme is sometimes credited with the creation of the dessert in its non-floral form, and it was included in her repertoire of French Grande cuisine.

Since my childhood, drawing has always been a passion. When I discovered photography, I thought that the combination of these two passions would allow me to give free rein to my imagination.
This is a second part of my sketches, you can see the first one here.

Elora Hardy left a successful career in the NY fashion scene to build bamboo houses in Indonesia. The Bali resident and her team have spent the last 5 years revolutionizing bamboo construction in the belief that it is an underused but ideal renewable resource. Hardy uses boron, which occurs naturally in nature, to treat the bamboo and make it indigestible to insects.
Hardy was inspired by her father, who “chose bamboo for all of the buildings on campus, because he saw it as a promise,” she explains in her TED talk. “It’s a promise to the kids. It’s one sustainable material that they will not run out of. And when I first saw these structures under construction about six years ago, I just thought, this makes perfect sense…Why hasn’t this happened sooner, and what can we do with it next?”
Bamboo has the compressive force of concrete, the strength-to-weight ratio of steel, and is one of the fastest growing plants in the world. Damage from insects and moisture are its primary weaknesses, but if treated, bamboo structures can last a lifetime.
