Hozier’s beautiful and soulful “Take Me To Church” track is an international hit in it own right, but when coupled with this raw and expressive dance piece by Ukrainian ballet dancer Sergei Polunin, it gains a new layer of powerful emotion.
The bluesy tunes of “Take Me To Church,” together with choreography written by Jade Hale-Christofi, guide Polunin through a torturous flurry of writhing arches and spins, as if the pain in Hozier’s voice courses through him as well. David LaChapelle cptured the whole thing on camera.
Polunin’s performance seems to take a page from Sia’s book – two of her recent music videos, both popular (and controversial), featured powerful interpretive dance performances. If you’ve been living under a rock, please check out the videos for “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart!”
